The Science Behind What Makes our Shampoo and Conditioner Power Fol
In early 2022, we embarked on a mission to develop a clean Shampoo and Conditioner that would create a system to enhance the effectiveness of our bestselling Power Fol™ Scalp & Hair Treatment, and meet our rigorous clinical and performance standards. After an intensive 2.5-year journey of meticulous research and development—involving hundreds of formula iterations, extensive volunteer customer surveys, and comprehensive clinical testing—we are thrilled to introduce the Power Fol™ Shampoo & Conditioner Duo.
Unparalleled Volume Improvement
After surveying 700+ customers, it was clear that volume was a top priority for our community. We added amaranth to the formula to enhance the volume of the individual hair shaft, and the results were staggering. Using the Dia-Stron Mini Tensile Tester (MTT) volume kit, we found that Maya Chia Power Fol™ Shampoo more than doubles the volume of untreated hair tresses. In fact, we saw up to a remarkable 150% improvement in hair volume across multiple tests.
Superior Foam Quality and Stability
Just delivering on volume wasn’t enough. The product experience had to exceed expectations – to not only clean the hair efficiently, but give you the full salon sensorial suds. When testing against three leading market shampoos using the KRÜSS DFA100 test, the lather results were clear:
- Maximum Foam Height: Maya Chia shampoo achieved an average maximum foam height of 134.85 mL, outperforming competitors included in the study.
- Foam Stability: Our shampoo maintained its foam for longer, with a 75% foam lifespan (tFLS 75%) of 37.2 seconds and a 25% foam lifespan (tFLS 25%) of 135.7 seconds, surpassing all of the three leading competitors.
- Bubble Count and Size: Maya Chia Shampoo demonstrated a higher initial bubble count and smaller initial bubble size, indicating a richer, creamier lather.
The Proof is in the Lather
To visually demonstrate our shampoo's performance, we conducted a head wash test using 6 grams of product. The high-speed video footage captured the impressive foam generation, showcasing the rich lather and stable bubble formation that our customers can expect.
Easy Rinsing, No Residue
While satisfying suds is half of the battle, rinsing clean is paramount to reaping the benefits of our power packed formulation. So important in fact, that we checked that too. Our Black Plate Drawdown test confirmed that Maya Chia shampoo rinses easily, leaving no residue behind. This means you get all the benefits of our volume-boosting formula without any product buildup. Allowing your shampoo to work for you long-term, and your scalp treatments to work better.
Heavyweight Strength, Light-as-Air Formulation
In addition to volume, survey respondents ranked shine, growth, and strength among top desired benefits. To achieve all four, we sourced products from around the globe to deliver a highly-effective, light-as-air formulation in the Power Fol™ Conditioner. Incorporating our signature chia seed oil to moisturize and reduce frizz, we introduced hydrolyzed baobab, which is rich in vitamins and minerals for hair nourishment, deployed our nutrient-dense bonding complex, and packed in amino acids, peptides, polysaccharides, pea protein and more, for stronger, thicker, fuller hair.

True to it's predecessor, the Power Fol™ Shampoo and Conditioner include the balancing and restorative formulation of the Power Fol™ Scalp & Hair Treatment, but with particular focus on preparing the scalp and tresses nutritionally to amplify the benefits of our cult favorite scalp serum.
